KNOW THE COURSE!
The Echo Triathlon course is simple to understand. Detailed maps are available below.
THE SWIM (presented by Sailfish Wetsuits)
The expected water temp in early July is between 65-74º.
UPDATE (as of 7/10/23)
Due to the high water levels and the limited shoreline at the venue, we will be conducting a mass start (like the old days!). Participants will have specific location to enter the water, warm up, and start the race.
Swimmers will head north in a rectangular, counter-clockwise manner, and will exit the water to the transition area. (1 loop for sprint distance, 2 loops for Intermediate(olympic) distance). Long Course athletes will swim two laps with an extra buoy to to the north. (SEE MAP).
*Based on water levels, we do reserve the right to adjust the course directions, entry/exit points, etc.
If you find yourself in need of support while in the water, simply wave your hand/ arms or swim to the nearest support team member. You may hold on to any support vessel without penalty as long as there is no forward movement.
You will be provided a swim cap which must be worn during the swim.
THE BIKE
Out and Back Courses for both Sprint and Intermediate. The Long Distance Bike Course follows the Intermediate course, but after the turnaround, Long Distance cyclists will continue going straight West then North to Echo township on the frontage road looping the small town of Henifer, and climbing a long steady 5-mile climb up SR65, or to what we affectionately call "COW PIE PASS! If you have ridden your bike on SR65 between Henifer and East Canyon Reservoir, you know what were talking about! At the top of COW PIE PASS, you turn around, and head back to the bike finish.
The fastest male and female to climb the 5-mile section to COW PIE PASS will each win $150 Cash. Timing mats will be at the base of the climb and also at the turnaround point.
Use caution and stay in control at all times. Sprint & Intermediate distance cyclists will head left (North) out of the transition area, on rolling roads, pass Echo Dam, under I-80, and right on Echo Canyon Road (northeast), parallel to the Interstate, climbing at approx 1 to 1.5% incline. Both the Sprint and Intermediate distance turn around points are on Echo Canyon Road. Be careful of a few potholes on Echo Canyon Road.
After the turn around, you will head back to transition to begin the run. Long distance will continue toward the town of Henifer, as described above.
NOTE: There are NO aid stations on the Sprint and Intermediate Bike Courses. Please have at least 2 bottles of water on your bike before heading out.
There are two aid stations on the Long Distance bike course, at/near miles 20 & 40.
THE RUN
All distances on the run courses are out and back.
The Long Distance run course completes the Intermediate course twice (spectator friendly).
Athletes will exit transition and run SOUTH along the historic Rail Trail. This trail is flat and packed dirt, paralleling Echo Reservoir, and continuing past Coalville, remaining on the trail.
Aid stations will be at approximately every mile. Each aid station will have water, electrolyte replacement, high fives and music.
After you finish, timers will display results on the results board.
