NEW 2021 SWIM & RUN MAPS COMING SOON!

SPRINT DISTANCE

750 meter swim (one lap)

14 mile bike

3.1 mile run (5k)

INTERMEDIATE (olympic) DISTANCE

1500 meter swim (two laps)

25 mile bike

6.2 mile run (10k)

KNOW THE COURSE!

The Echo Triathlon course is pretty easy to understand. However, we have made some changes to the swim and run courses this year.  Detailed maps will be coming soon. We think you'll LOVE the changes!

THE "Zone 3 Wetsuit" SWIM

The expected water temp in early July is between 65-74º.

At the swim start, please look for the signs for average swim paces per 100 yards and seed yourself according to your swimming ability. From here we will be conducting a rolling start.

What does this mean? We will funnel athletes through a chute, approximately 10 feet wide, into the water, 6 at a time. Once you cross the timing mat, your race time starts.

Why the rolling start? If everyone seeds themselves correctly, it’s safer, reduces congestion, and athletes can start together with friends and family members regardless of age/gender.  Plus it provides natural "social distancing" as the race begins.

Swimmers will head west  in a rectangular, counter-clockwise manner, and will exit the water to the transition area. (1 loop for sprint distance, 2 loops for Intermediate(olympic) distance).

If you find yourself in need of support  while in the water, simply wave your hand/ arms or  swim to the nearest support team member. You may hold on to any support vessel without penalty as long as there is no forward movement.

You will be provided a swim cap which must be worn during the swim.

THE BIKE

Out and Back Courses for both Sprint and Intermediate.

Use caution and stay in control at all times. Sprint distance cyclists will head left (North) out of the transition area, on rolling roads, pass Echo Dam, under I-80, and right on Echo Canyon Road (northeast), parallel to the Interstate, climbing at approx 1 to 1.5% incline. Both the Sprint and Intermediate distance turn around points are on Echo Canyon Road.  Be careful of a few potholes on Echo Canyon Road.

After the turn around, you will head back to transition to begin the run.

NOTE: There are NO aid stations on the bike course. Please have at least 2 bottles of water on your bike before heading out.

THE RUN

NEW RUN COURSE!

Both the Sprint and Intermediate run courses are out and back.

Athletes will exit transition and run SOUTH along the historic Rail Trail.  This trail is flat and packed dirt, paralleling Echo Reservoir.

Aid stations will be at approximately every mile. Each aid station will have water, electrolyte replacement, high fives and music.

After you finish, timers will display results on the results board.

IMPORTANT RACE DETAILS

IMPORTANT RACE DETAILS

IMPORTANT RACE DETAILS

PLEASE READ!

If you have raced Echo before, while many things will be the same, a lot has changed!  Please read this info completely as the venue and courses are different than past years. If you raced the event in 2021, then the info below is old news.... but you still may want to familiarize yourself with the deets!

First, Echo Resort was purchased three years ago by The State of Utah. It is now Echo State Park. As such, improvements in the South Beach Area have been made.  Remember the dirt transition area? Well, now it is paved and beautiful! YAY!

Second, with this change, we have permission to allow  participants and spectators to park on-site at the venue. No more shuttle busses.  HOWEVER, for the safety of our athletes and spectators, we will close access into and out of the parking area when the races begin at 7AM until the awards ceremony.  See "PARKING" below for specifics.

PARKING

Friday Evening:  Gates will open at 5pm for campers and packet pick-up. If you are camping, you do Not need a reservation; however, there is a $30 charge for camping (CASH only).

Race Day - Saturday Morning:  Gates will open at 5am.

Athlete Parking is included in your registration.

Parking will be on the beach and in the camping area away from the race venue.

Spectator Parking is $10 per vehicle, so be smart and carpool with your spectators!

Athletes will need to show confirmation of race entry to enter for free on Race Day.

There is NO Parking on the Highway.

CAMPING

Camping is available on-site at the race venue.

  • $30 paid when you show up. First come first serve.
  • ($10 less than the State Park camping fee).
  •  Dry Camping only, but restrooms are plenty!
  • Only a few Hookups will not be available.  Trailers, Campers, RV's are all welcome.

TRANSITION AREA

Only Athletes are allowed in the transition area.

You must be checked in and have your race # to enter transition.

Transition Area will open at 5:30am on Race Day.

LEAVE NO TRACE

Litter could jeopardize the life of this and any event. In addition to littering not being cool, USA Triathlon officials may give you a time penalty for littering on the race course.  Please dispose of all trash in proper receptacles.  Please clean up any garbage/trash in your transition area and respect the venues that allow us to host these awesome events!

All athletes are required to retrieve any gel packets or water bottles that are discarded during the bike.  A USA Triathlon "abandoning of equipment" time penalty will result if littering is witnessed by a USA Triathlon official.  Please also keep control of all gel packets on the bike and run.

SPECTATORS

Spectators are more than welcome to park at the venue this year. Be aware that entering the park is $10 per vehicle for spectators.

For safety reasons, spectators and athletes are asked to stay until the event is completed.  Access out of the park will be limited to emergency personnel and event staff.

Why you ask?  There is only one entrance & exit at this venue. Cyclists and runners will share this area as part of the course. with cars. Therefore, cars will not be allowed to leave until all athletes are off the course.
