KNOW THE COURSE!
Point to Point races are a blast, but do require some attention. The bike course specifically has technical climbs and descents requiring attention. Study the maps, know the course, and you'll have a great day! Below is a link with detailed map of the race course.
GEAR BAGS
Each athlete will be provided a gear bag. You can also use your own gear bag. (This is separate from your backpack gift). Please make sure it is marked with your name and contact information.
YOU MUST mark your bag with your number and place ALL of your swim gear (including your wetsuit) in the bag before leaving T1 on the bike. If your gear bag is not marked, or if you left something out of the bag (like a $600 wetsuit), we will have no idea who’s it is and it will be set-aside at T2. Per USAT rules, you also risk a 2 minute penalty if you do not place all items in your T1 gear bag. DO NOT LEAVE valuable items such as phones, keys, etc. in your gear bag. Because space is limited in T1 and in the transportation vehicles, we will not shuttle down items that were not a necessity for your race (lawn chairs, buckets, etc). If you bring your own bike pump, be sure your name is on it, or you risk losing it.
TriUtah staff and volunteers will transport all the bags to T2 for you.
THE SWIM
The expected water temp in August is between 64-72º.
At the swim start, please look for the signs for average swim paces per 100 yards and seed yourself according to your swimming ability. From here we will be conducting a rolling start. What does this mean? We will funnel athletes through a chute, approximately 10 feet wide, into the water. Once you cross the timing mat, your race time starts.
Why the rolling start? If everyone seeds themselves correctly, it’s safer, reduces congestion, and athletes can start together with friends and family members regardless of age/gender. Plus it provides natural "social distancing" as the race begins.
Swimmers will enjoy an open water swim start and will head northeast in a rectangular, counter-clockwise manner and will exit the water to T1 (1 loop for sprint distance, 2 loops for Intermediate(olympic) distance)
If you find yourself in need of support while in the water, simply wave your hand/ arms or swim to the nearest support team member. You may hold on to any support vessel without penalty as long as there is no forward movement.
You will be provided a swim cap which must be worn during the swim.
THE BIKE
The bike course is fast! Use caution and stay in control at all times.
Sprint distance cyclists will head left out of the marina, downhill towards Morgan City and T2. Be careful of the first few turns. They are tight and steep, and yes, we've seen accidents on this course. Historic "Botts Bend" is named after Brian Botts, a local favorite athlete who crashed so hard, he dented the steel barriers on the side of the road. So, PLEASE... be careful. 'nuff said.
The Olympic cyclists will exit the marina by turning right and will climb and descend a small, steep, winding hill before going south toward the East Canyon Resort for 6 miles, where they’ll make a U-turn and head back passing the Marina, and speed downhill for 12 miles into Morgan City. Both Sprint and Intermediate (olympic) distance races will travel along the same route and finish at Riverside Park to T2.
CAUTION: The first few turns heading downhill toward Morgan are STEEP and TIGHT. Be careful! We recommend driving the course before race day, to better know the route.
NOTE: There are NO aid stations on the bike course. Please have at least 2 bottles of water on your bike before heading out.
THE RUN
Both the Sprint and Intermediate run courses are out and back. Athletes will run along the beautiful Weber River and local streets that are monitored by volunteers and police.
The run is slightly uphill for the first half, before turning around and heading on a gradual downhill on the second half. Athletes run the perimeter of Riverside Park, where the shaded, grassy finish-line awaits.
Aid stations will be at every mile. Each aid station will have water, electrolyte replacement, high fives and music.
If you did not East Canyon in 2021, please take note that the run course is updated and back to it's original route (due to new land ownership on the previous route) this year and is different than in 2019.
Overall and Age-Group awards will be presented at 10:30am for the Sprint distance and 11:00am for the Intermediate (olympic) distance.

To avoid accidents and limit traffic congestion on the bike course, spectators will have to drive a separate route through Henefer and I-80. back too Morgan.
PARKING
Dropping off athletes at East Canyon Marina on Saturday morning is allowed, but vehicle parking is extremely limited. You are also required to pay an entrance fee into the marina area by East Canyon State Park if you decide to stay and watch the swim. The Utah Highway Patrol and Weber County Sheriff will be present and ready to ticket and tow anyone who parks on the roads leading into East Canyon Resort. So, park in the designated areas inside East Canyon State Park.
**Please plan ahead. You will need to either: 1) Drop your bike off and set up your gear Friday evening (recommended), or 2) Have a driver drop you off on race morning. It will be much easier and less stressful if you arrive Friday evening, check in your bike, set up your gear, and then ride the shuttle on race day morning.
